The check engine light is part of your vehicle's onboard diagnostics (OBD) system. Computers control and monitor vehicle performance, regulate variables such as engine speed (RPM), fuel mixture, and ignition timing, and tell the automatic transmission when to shift. When the electronic-control system finds a problem it cannot adjust, the computer turns on the warning indicator and stores a trouble code in it's memory. These diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) help identify the probable source of the problem, such as a malfunctioning sensor or a misfiring engine and can be read with a diagnostic computer. Vehicle manufacturers use the OBD system to help technicians pinpoint and troubleshoot malfunctions.
Your vehicle’s electrical system consists of the battery, starter, alternator and other associated components. The battery provides power to the starter. Once the engine is running, the alternator recharges the battery giving it the energy it needs to power your car. If one of these parts is not working properly, your vehicle won’t start or run correctly. Our technicians will perform a complete electrical system check, identify the problem area, and repair or replace the alternator, battery, starter, or any other associated component. Don't be left stranded on the side of the road. If your vehicle is hard to start or you notice problems with the window motors, lights or dash, bring it to Carothers for an electrical system check.
A vehicle's cooling system must maintain the engine at a constant temperature whether the outside air is 110 degrees Fahrenheit or 10 degrees below zero. If the engine temperature is too low, the fuel economy will suffer and emissions will rise. If the temperature is allowed to get too hot for too long, the engine will self destruct. If your engine temperature warning light comes on, your engine could be in trouble. Bring it to Carothers where will will check the radiator, hoses, heater core, water pump and all other cooling system components. Our technicians can replace your failed cooling system components and get you back on the road in cool comfort.
A vehicle's suspension system includes the tires, wheels, springs, shocks and associated linkages that enable the tires to maintain contact with the road in less than perfectly flat conditions. If your suspension system fails, the tires will bounce and lose contct with the road causing steering and braking problems. Minor suspension failures will make the ride of your vehicle either very bouncy or stiff. Major suspension problems can make driving the vehicle difficult to impossible. Don't ignore suspension issues. The worse it gets, the more likely it coul cause an accident.
The fuel system in your car is designed to get the gas or diesel fuel from the tank to the engine. This system includes the gas tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors and associated hoses. If your car cranks fine but just won't start, you may have a fuel system problem. The technicians at Carothers can diagnose a fuel system problem and pinpoint the offending component. While regular maintenance of your fuel system will prolong it's life, some parts will need to be replaced as the vehicle gets older.
Did you ever notice that the car is hard to turn when the engine is not running. That's because the power steering pump needs the rotation of the engine to provide the driver with the added power to turn the wheels. If you notice your car is becoming hard to turn, then you may have a power steering problem. It could be as simple as low fluid or as major as a pump or steering system failure. The technicians at Carothers can expertly diagnose power steering system failures and get you back on the road to smooth turning.
Did you know that the number one cause for mechanical breakdowns on the road today is cooling system failure? That’s right. This system is as vital as the human circulation system, and as such, it is particularly important that the cooling system be maintained to operate properly, especially with dramatic changes in temperatures.
Automatic transmissions of today are computer controlled, ingeniously engineered, and incredibly sophisticated. What does this mean for the owner? It means much more expense should that transmission have problems.
Keep the transmission clean and properly maintained for extended service life. The best way to do this is to follow the manufacturer’s suggested service intervals and flush the transmission system as recommended, using a first-rate flush chemistry system.
Sometimes, just changing your oil isn't enough. A Complete Oil System Flush is designed to be more effective than a conventional oil change. It removes virtually all old oil from the engine and promotes smoother performance and extended engine life. Complete Oil System Flush does not contain kerosene or mineral spirits. It is safe for all oil changes, including synthetics and semi-synthetics.
The second most common cause of breakdowns on the road today is electrical system failure? And your battery is the heart of that system. High temperatures in the summer weaken the battery and the cold temperatures in the winter kill it. We only supply ACDelco Professional grade battteries. So get your battery and charging system tested today for free and we'll make sure you keep moving down the road.
